Q & A Session

A:

Counseling is a professional service aimed at assisting individuals in self-understanding, addressing life's difficulties, and promoting positive adaptation and change. Counseling can be divided into two forms: 'individual counseling', which is conducted on a one-on-one basis, and 'group counseling', which consists of six to twelve people.

Challenges, setbacks, and lows in life are unavoidable challenges during growth. Sometimes we choose to struggle independently, and sometimes we seek allies to face them together. Psychological counseling provides a context of acceptance, support, and trust, accompanying you in exploring yourself, enhancing your understanding and awareness of the related contexts, thoughts, and feelings of your troubles, discovering different internal and external resources and perspectives, thereby possessing more possibilities and choices. It also assists you in returning to life where you can self-actualize, and face, resolve, and adjust to troubles with more courage.

A:

You can apply for counseling on our website whenever you feel the need at any time during the semester. The scheduling times for initial consultations are from Monday to Friday, 8:00-17:00, and the counseling times are from Monday to Thursday, 8:00-22:00, and Friday, 8:00-17:00.

A:

Once you submit a counseling application, we will first arrange an initial consultation for you within 1-2 weeks based on the available consultation times you have indicated on your application form. The arrangement will be made according to the principle of Monday to Friday, 8:00-17:00, and we will contact you via phone call or text message. After the initial consultation, we will arrange a suitable counselor for you based on your current discussion topics, needs, and time, and then individual counseling can begin.

If you are unable to attend the scheduled initial consultation due to unforeseen circumstances, please take the initiative to contact us in advance by phone or in person at the center, so that we can help you arrange the next initial consultation time, thereby reducing the potential waiting time caused by communication issues.

A:

The initial consultation is a crucial step before entering counseling, requiring your active participation. The primary objective is to understand the troubling situation you are currently facing, the impact this trouble has on your life, how you have recently responded to this trouble, and what help you hope to receive and improvements you wish to achieve. After organizing the trouble and related experiences, we aim to jointly focus on the direction and goals of subsequent counseling, which can assist you in more effectively confronting and dealing with the trouble. Furthermore, the initial consultation will inform you of your relevant important rights and help you understand the way subsequent counseling will be conducted, alleviating any tension or worries you may have when starting counseling. If there are other concerns, you are welcome to clarify them with the initial consultation teacher during the initial consultation, allowing you to start counseling comfortably and with peace of mind.

A:

The waiting time for counseling varies depending on the number of applicants at the time. In addition, factors such as the availability of counseling spaces, the counselor's schedule, and your availability for consultation must be taken into account. Generally, if the venue and the counselor's schedule are sufficiently available, a regular counseling session can be arranged for you within 1-2 weeks. However, if there are more applicants at the time (based on past experience, usually around mid-term and final exams), the waiting time may vary from 2-4 weeks. We kindly ask for your patience. Once a regular counseling time is scheduled, you will be notified by phone or email about the counseling time, location, and counselor. Please pay special attention to the scheduled time and attend as agreed. Counseling resources are extremely valuable, so we hope you will cherish them. If you need to take a leave of absence, please notify us in advance.

A:

Rest assured, we place great importance on your feelings and well-being. Based on the principles of counseling ethics and regulations, all information related to you in the counseling process will be properly confidential and managed to protect your rights. Unless you voluntarily inform others, or we assess that your situation requires the assistance of other personnel to help you solve the problem more effectively, there will be situations where the principle of confidentiality is breached. Before we contact other personnel, we will obtain your consent in advance, and have a thorough discussion and explanation with you to alleviate any potential discomfort and anxiety.
The aforementioned situations that require breaching the principle of confidentiality include:

  1. If your conversation involves self-harm, harm to others, or situations that endanger your own or others' life, freedom, property, and safety.
  2. If your conversation involves legal liability, such as the Domestic Violence Prevention Act, the Child and Youth Welfare and Rights Protection Act, the Gender Equity Education Act, the Sexual Assault Crime Prevention Act, the Sexual Harassment Prevention Act, etc.
  3. If we assess that your situation needs to be referred to a medical institution, or requires the assistance of other professionals.
  4. If your situation, as assessed by professional counselors, requires continuous counseling services after leaving school, your affiliated college psychologist will transition your counseling needs to ensure continuous care and assistance (in accordance with the Student Transition Counseling and Service Regulations).

During the initial consultation, we will inform you of this right and sign a counseling consent form.
